Come celebrate Pride Month with us on Wednesday, June 6th with our besties Tim Gunn, David Sedaris, Margaret Cho and George Takei! Perhaps they wont be here in person, but they are featured at this month’s doc night. LOW RES is extremely excited to present a Sundance Select doc, Do I Sound Gay? Directed by journalist David Thorpe, this film explores the cultural history of the gay voice in film and television.
Before starting the doc, we’re welcoming storytellers of OUTspoken! The group has been sharing their uniquely personal LGBTQ stories at their monthly show at Sidetrack over the last 5 years.
Doors open at 6:45pm! As always, snacks provided and our friends at Half Acre are taking care of the beer. If beer’s not your thing, feel free to BYO.
ABOUT THE FILM
Is there such a thing as a "gay voice"? Why do some people "sound gay" but not others? Why are gay voices a mainstay of pop culture but also a trigger for bullying and harassment? Do I Sound Gay? explores these questions and more and includes revealing interviews with Margaret Cho, Tim Gunn, Don Lemon, Dan Savage, David Sedaris and George Takei.
